IN MEMORY OF GURU

I remember my Brother watching this video early in the morning instead of getting ready to go to school. I was 9 at the time and I was still very much influenced by my Big brother who was introducing me to all these different Hip Hop artist at the time. This track and video by Gang Starr stood out for me then and now because of the great shots of NYC!!! but mostly because of the content delivered by G.U.R.U. The way he clearly expressed life in NYC is so real and so memorable over Premiere beats. Then the track "Just to get a Rep" which was even earlier on (1990) till this day reminds me why I am still extra careful when I am in another hood, and why I don't leave anything in plain sight inside my car no matter where I park it. The City was just like that then and GURU was one of the best at sharing it in the realist way possible. Now there are Condos on the water front where "Suckas need Bodyguards" was filmed and very little stick up kids are left (don't sleep they are still out there), and now R.I.P. GURU one of the last real Hip Hop artist. I feel we lost a piece of our city, and for sure a piece of our history.

RYAN MCGINLEY "EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE" TEAM GALLERY

I was not able to attend the opening reception for this gallery, but I made sure to pass by before Ryan's work is taken down. When I was a little dude I hated pictures, hated taking them, hated being in them, I hated the process of posing, smiling putting you arm around someone or a group of people. I now know that I did not hate pictures I hated the unnatural process and feeling of the photos I was taking at the time. I appreciate great photography now, and I am slowly capturing life thru a lens and respecting the art while doing so. Ryan McGinley is an amazing photographer and his art is appreciated, and respected by many which is well deserved. When his latest work opened at the Team Gallery everybody came out even the fire Marshall along with NYPD to shut the gallery down due to over crowding.
The 1st video is of the opening reception my favorite part is when Ryan does a back flip (3:20) and Aaron Bondaroff (OH-WOW/aNYthing) helps him land it lol!...

Troy and I visited the gallery and then went out to put our canon's to work because all the quality inspired us (qualityinspires.com by troy coming soon).

THE BEST PLACES TO LIVE IN NYC / RANKED TOP 50 / HARLEM IS DEAD LAST

NYMAG.COM (full article) has drawn up another list, this time they have ranked NYC livable neighborhoods. This list obviously was not compiled by native New Yorkers, but check it out and let me know if you all agree. Just want to point out some of the hood's that made the list that surprised me where they are placed. HARLEM!! dead last at #50, this is just disrespectful to say the least the history alone should have Harlem at top 10. Congrats! to Sunny Side Queens ranking very high at #3, I attended high school in this neighborhood and it has come along way not my 1st choice but still a great area. Park Slope #1 SMH! great place to put the DSLR to work but not to live unless your living in the Hotel dorms, or can afford paying 2,300 for a 1-2 bedroom. Tribeca #14, this would be my #1 because in Tribeca I can still find an apartment like the one Wayne had in Wayne's world 2.

J CREW FALL 2010 PREVIEW DESIGNED BY FRANK MUYTJEN

Lead by the design direction of Frank Muytjen J Crew has previewed a great Fall 2010 collection. J Crew is an essential brand to any wardrobe, the designs are classic but can be worn in so may ways. This collection is so strong because every single piece has more then one purpose and put together correctly will only enhance the look. The styling in this look book is really well done, but I have to say I am a little bored with the rolled up jeans it looks great but it is seen in every single look book. GQ speaks to the designer in the video below.

VA$HTIE INTERVIEW NBC

Va$htie getting some very deserved shine on NBC "Upstate Misfit becomes Downtown's Sweetheart". Va$htie is from upstate New York but New York none the less and I find it amazing how the majority of the cities movers and shakers did not grow up in the city but move here and kick ass, while the city natives try and play catch up. Much respect to Va$htie and her art, and to the rest of us city rats lets get moving before you have to move out.
